Well it was due to happen at some point. I would've been too optimistic to think I could make this whole trip alone unscathed.
I am now officially a college graduate! I've finished my French courses and I am now continuing on with my trip. Everyone was great and I made many wonderful memories.
It's now about mid day Saturday here in... Europe. I couldn't tell you where I'm at right now. Somewhere in between France/Luxembourg/Belgium.
I woke up this morning at 7am to catch my train to Paris to then catch a connecting train to Brussels. As it turns out though my professor misunderstood me and booked my train ticket to the wrong train station. And you'd assume it wouldn't be that hard to get to another one in the same city. Well you're wrong!
I arrived in Montparnesse at 12 and needed to be in Charles De Gaulle by 1:10. This is where paying attention more in class would've come in handy!!
I had to go on a wild goose chase through the station to find a way to Charles De Gaulle. Once I finally found the bus stop the luggage boy told me it would take at least an hour to get there and I needed cash. So then I had to go find an aTm. Mind you! I'm also walking around completely by myself with a ratherly large back pack, duffle bag and purse!! I felt like the koolaid man. Any wrong moves and I was going to tumble on over because I was very top heavy. If I dropped anything it was staying on the ground!
Anyways I finally got to Charles de Gaulle and of course waited in the wrong line to get my ticket exchanged, but I finally did. With a minute to spare! Literally! I couldn't exchange it past 2:00 and they exchanged it at 1:59. Success.
While I was waiting in line (the wrong one) I enjoyed watching a Ukranian couple talk about me though. Body language people!! It's universal!!! They were talking about how my eyes looked big in my glasses and the women literally turned right around and looked right at me. I resisted the urge to try and scare her. Would've made my day though.
So as I waited 3 hours to pass without wifi or any communication. I finally got the next train. Which is a very cool two-story train packed with little British kids!! I'm literally sitting in the cafe area because there are no seats. Again with the language though. I was a little lost and got trapped in the kids compartment and one of them asked "Where is she bloody going?" I turned around and I was like "I don't know dude?! Why are there so many of y'all though?! Hahahaha
They got a kick out me saying y'all. If I had a euro for every time some one commented on how my eyes looked big in my glasses or that I said y'all I could've come back on this trip rich! I'm from Texas and I'm blind! Get over it.
The first thing I'm going to do when I get home is put in contacts and scarf down food that doesn't consist of bread or cheese.
Oh and I also pedaled my way to a charged phone. While on my 3 hour wait they have these stations where you can plug in your phone and charge it on a bicycle! The guy next to me was attempting to charge 3 phones and a computer... Hahahah! Who are you Lance Armstrong? Needless to say he gave up :p
Well wish me luck! Hopefully ill be safely in Bruges by some time tonight.
Have a good weekend!!

So an edit to my last post...
I'm still traveling and it is now 8:30pm here. I've been on 1metro 4trains and 1bus and I'm still not there. After sitting in the cafe area of the last train it stopped in Lille, France and everyone got off and the electricity started to turn off. So I had to grab all my stuff which was in different places and then get off the train. Come to find out only half of the train was going to Brussels. I was on the wrong half. There should be signs for when a train is going to be leaving half of itself at a stop!!! I'm now in some port town in Belgium called Oostende. Because I didn't get off at the right stop and instead had to ride the train all the way to the end of its course. I was also one of 2 on my train cart and the other guy decided to try and talk to me although he's from Nicaragua and only spoke Spanish. So the train information is in German. I've been studying French for a month. I speak English and this guy was trying to talk to me in Spanish... No! Just stop.
I have been traveling for 12 hours and all I want right now is a shower and food.
2nd edit:
I've finally made it!! After 13hrs!! Of course when I got to Bruges the bus I needed didn't run anymore so I had to find another one, but it drove around the city and I am so excited to explore! This place is beautiful :)
So, Dad's wondering how far did you get on your phone charge? ;) This was darling and fun to read! Fortunately, it all worked out and you've got great stories to tell! :) Enjoy Bruges!Love you!!
ReplyDeleteHahahahhahaha we always have some kind of crazy adventure/ memories to go along with what we do! And if I would have been there I might have been able to talk to the Nicaraguan! :( I'll say one thing, if we go live somewhere that speaks other than English, at least we have most of the languages covered together! I can't wait to see you! XOXO
