Beautiful Bruges and my weirdo bunk mate

I've spent my first day in Bruges and unfortunately it has felt like the longest day ever! It doesn't help that it doesn't get dark here until 11 either.

(The city center on my stroll last night)

I woke up at 8 and ate breakfast. Then I went on a long stroll through the city. Since it's Sunday it was a little deserted, but I didn't mind. I think from all the traveling and walking I was pretty exhausted though so I came back and took a nap. I then woke up and again wandered some more. I've pretty much covered about 80% of the city. This place is quite small and I probably could've been fine with just a day or two here. I ate a nice salad on a bench in the city center and then went into the historium exhibit. Which was like a 4D experience and movie on what Bruges was like about 500yrs ago during it's Golden Era. I also got a small chunk of Belgian chocolate, which was delicious. I walked into the frites/friet (fries) but didn't do the tour. Some people may not know, but french fries were actually invented I'm Belgium and you can buy them everywhere here! They're also especially good compared to fries anywhere else ;)

By this time it was only like 4pm so I meandered on over to the river and read for a bit and now it's about 7:30. And most places close here at about 7 especially on Sundays so now I have about 3 hours until it gets dark and not much to do.

Like a lot of others I'm just hanging out in my bunk right now, but ofcourse my luck I get weirdo mcpainster in the bed above me. It's some American girl who sits in the hostel all day painting pictures of naked women and fields... And she has a friend who has decided to walk into our room as he pleases. Unfortunately they noticed I was American and I couldn't avoid a conversation. The guy actually lives in Texas and he is a teacher. He's so strange though! They sat around discussing her art work and how he believes fish are like birds and that they fly in the sea and blah blah. I wasn't particularly a fan of their pretentious artsy converstaion. He told me I needed to throw my book away and read something more powerful. I like my books how I like my movies dude! Cheesy romantic comedies! Not boring novels about pessimistic views on life. Then I proceeded to try and ignore them, but as I was laying in my bed on my phone he thought he would try and be funny. And he came from behind me and started clicking on my screen. He was about 2 seconds away from 5 broken fingers!

Then the girl has me dying for air as she uses paint thinner in the room, that we share with 14 other people!!! And she hums so loudly I can hear it through my headphones! Get me outta here! These people are crazy.

Only 5 more days!!
