Wow I have so much to catch up on. I'm not used to having to blog this often. I have a tendency of getting overwhelmed when I decide to blog just because there is so much to say. That's a little pathetic I know.
So where to start.... I'm here in Rennes and will be here for 3 weeks now. I'm studying French and holy moly the curriculum is hard. We have class from 9 to 5 and there are 4 different sections. None of our teachers speak english and we are not allowed to speak english in class as well. Therefore I go back and forth between learning a lot and completely shutting off and checking out my split ends.
The grocery store was interesting as well. I think I bought microwaveable spaghetti? I'm not exactly sure and I don't want to have a repeat of Barcelona an catch the microwave on fire. Fuego!! Feu!! Anyways the food here is absolutely amazing! I'm trying my best not to eat my weight in bread and cheese. Literally.
A few days ago Josh, Terryn (my roommate) and I all went exploring. It's impossible to get lost in this medieval town. I love it, but it's so small. I feel like we go in circles over and over again. So since everything closes here around 7 or so we found a small cafe that was open and stopped for a bit. It was probably one of the most picturesque and memorable moments I will have in my life. The cafe was small and we sat outside on the patio around 10pm and ordered wine. The cobble stone streets were empty and there was jazz music playing in the background. We ordered tartines which we didn't know what the were, but they ended up being bread with cheese melted on top. Which is amazing!
I seem to have had so many memorable moments on this trip so far. I feel blessed to even be here. I'm also really happy with my decision to travel alone. Although everyone tells me I'm crazy and ballsy I enjoy it. I don't mind getting lost and meeting new people and even going out alone. It ends up making the best experiences. I've met so many people and learned so much.
After a day of torture today... School. One of the girls, Stacy, and I meandered around looking for thrift shops. We found one darling one where I bought a small purse with an old map patterned on it. Speaking of thrift stores Terryn and I also found an amazing flea market last Sunday. We woke up late and decided to just walk around and stumbled upon it. It was the most precious markets ever and of course me being the trinket collector I am I was in my element. I bought a children's fable book in french to read to my future kids. It is old and has all the same stories we have in english, but more. I also but a precious teacup and saucer, old planner, coffee tray, and post cards dating back to the 1900s.
I really have so much more to tell everyone, but I can't type forever and I'm always busy.
On the note of getting lost though... So for as much as I have explored I got perdu ce soir, "lost tonight." I went for a run and ended up making some super off loop around the city and ended up having to run through the main city center. Not many people run here and everyone stares. So it just made for one super awkward moment. I ran and everyone enjoyed their wine and watched me run by.
Tomorrow we are going on a field trip to St. Malo which is a beautiful city by the coast. It should be a wonderful trip.
Also on a side note I'm posting these experiences for my family and for memories for myself. So sorry if they are redundant or bothersome. :)
Have a wonderful day -M
They are not bothersome at all you silly girl! I'm so glad you have this blog so I can learn more than just the pictures. The small town looks so darling, i'm already in love! I can't wait to hear all about it! XOXO
